Class procedures:
1. Entering class - you must be in your seat when the bell rings or you’re considered tardy.
2. Bellwork - You will have bellwork nearly every day. Check the chalkboard.
3. Tardy – Review consequences in your Student Handbook.
4. Leaving class - You must ask permission to leave class. Sign out on the log next to the door. Only one student will be permitted to leave class at a time.
5. Gum - Not permitted anywhere at Orange Grove.
6. iPod/MP3 players are not permitted in the classroom.
7. Getting your attention – I will ask “Clap once if you hear me” and respond with a clap.
8. Seating plan - I will create a new plan at least two times quarter and I will chose the members of any groups.
9. Finishing work early - If you finish early, I expect you to find other work to do. Silent reading or completing homework from your other classess are excellent activities. We have an extended activities corner with vocabulary words from the unit and additional reading materials about the topics we study in class.
10. Room appearance - A neat, professional appearance will aid learning. You will not be dismissed until the classroom is picked up and I say you are permitted to leave.
11. Asking questions - Raise your hand and wait to be called on.
12. Class dismissal - I dismiss the class, not the bell.
13. Absent – If you are absent you are responsible for any work you missed. Check the website for bellwork questions and any Power Points or handouts that were covered in class.
14. Homework - It is due at the start of class or it is late.
15. Late work – Everyone is expected to complete every assignment. It is important for you to show me that you understand the material.
16. Participating in class discussions - I strongly encourage you to participate in class discussions. We all learn from each other.
17. Respecting others opinions - This relates to our class rules. Remain silent while someone else is expressing their views and wait to be called on. You can respectfully disagree with others opinions, but you will not criticize them.
18. Group assignments - Everyone will participate in several group assignments.
19. Pencil sharpening - Can be accomplished before class and when working on group or individual projects. It will not be permitted when the instructor is teaching.
20. Use of planners - I will periodically check to ensure you are effectively using your planner.
21. Emergency procedures - Take fire drills seriously. We will accomplish at least one per month. If they are not accomplished quickly, we will practice until we know we can exit quickly and safely.
22. Classroom visitors - From time to time, we will have a class visitor to present subject matter or view our learning process. Treat our visitors with the same respect we show all of our Orange Grove staff and students.
23. Checking out a textbook – There are a limited number of hard copy textbooks available at the library or you can chose to use an online copy.
24. Exams and quizzes – Format will vary but you will always know well in advance.
25. Computer procedures – You will be assigned a computer from the COW for your use in class. You are responsible for appropriately handling the computer and plugging it in at the end of the period. Inappropriate use of computers (violations to the technology agreement) will result in loss of computer privileges during class.
26. Grading system – At Orange Grove we use a rubric based grading system.
27. Turning in work – Sometimes I will ask you to put your work in the basket. Other times I will ask you to pass it forward and I will collect it.
28. Handing back assignments – If you are absent when I return work, it will be in your folder.
29. Instructor availability – Usually, at lunch, and 30 min before school. I am always available via e-mail.
30. Neatness and legibility – It’s your work…show pride!
