Students were introduced the the virtual museum project; they picked a leader (curator) and a tech person. Students began creating a mission statement.

Learning Goal: As a team create a virtual museum that educates attendees to key civil rights people, events and issues in American history.
Bellwork: List 5 major racial groups in the US and the percentage of the population they comprise.
Students worked in their groups and wrote a mission statement for their museum. Tech people had special training from Mrs. Olson on how to add things to the museum. Students began research on their topics.

Students added their Mission Statements in the museums and made their decisions on how many rooms their museum will have. Students continued doing research.

Students were told that they can't cut and paste the information from the internet and put in their museum. All the words in their museum must be original. Students are responsible for citing their sources using MLA format. All the "starred" items on the Concept Map must be in the museum.

Student teams should have 100% of the photographs in their museums by today. They should have all rooms named. The "curator" room should be renamed the "Mission Statement". All links in the museum should work. Teams can have 2 videos up to 3 minutes each in their museum.

Learning Goal: Explain the role of Jackie Robinson in the Civil Rights Movement.
Bellwork: Place the SB events in proper order from 1st to last.
Students were told that students Sydney and James won the state championship in the Personal Finance Case Study division. Students were told that there will be a quiz on Civil Rights, 40 multiple choice questions, on Monday, April 24th. They were given a study guide and a copy can be found under 8th Grade Homework. Students went into their Civil Rights Museum groups and review peer feedback and their grades for the project. Students watched the movie "42" about Jackie Robinson.

Bellwork: How does Jackie Robinson's being the first African American in MLB fit in a Civil Rights Events timeline? What would you add about him in your Civil Rights Museum?
Students were given to opportunity to practice using the features in a AZMerit Reading Practice Quiz. Students were reminded to bring water, a snack, earbuds and a book during AZMerit testing.

Bellwork: Write 3 words similar to "equal".
Students write the primary source documents of the 13th, 14th and 15th amendments then summarized what they meant. Then students learned about the Supreme Court case Plessy v. Ferguson, 1896.

Learning Goal: Explain the Supreme Court case of Brown v. The Board of Education, 1954.
Bellwork: Summarize the Supreme Court case Plessy v. Ferguson, 1896.
Students read about the case of Brown v. The Board of Education and used a notetaker. Students then began reviewing for the Civil Rights quiz on April 24th by doing a crossword puzzle.
